Hat tip to Lou Davenport's "Name that show!" thread below.

I know of five instances were Weather Report Suite Prelude segued into something other than WRS Pt. 1:

11/19/72 - Dark Star> WRS Prelude> Half Step
03/21/73 - WRS Prelude> Dark Star
03/26/73 - Truckin> WRS Prelude> Wharf Rat
03/28/73 - WRS Prelude> Dark Star
04/02/73 - WRS Prelude> Eyes

All of these are nice, but I especially like 3/26/73. Are there any that I'm missing?

I believe that 1971-08-06 has a really short bit of weather report in it. I believe its the other one (second?) where it occurs. I think its only bobby doing a few licks.

3/26/73 is definitely the best of these 'proto-preludes' that i've heard, although i've never heard 7/21/72, i'll have to check that out.

they're interesting to me because unlike the later preludes which are mostly bobby doing his solo, they're a 'full band' effort, which makes them sound really unique.

There was another list of the early WRS preludes here:
http://www.archive.org/post/263203/tdih-weather-report-suite

The Prelude does pop a couple times in summer '72 - 7/21/72 (a unique version), and on 8/25/72 when Weir segues into it out of the Other One! It may have segued into something else, but the tape cuts.

And, here are some late '73 shows where they segue into the WRS prelude:
9-17-73 Truckin>Eyes>WRS
9-24-73 Truckin>Eyes>WRS
9-26-73 Truckin>Eyes>WRS
10-23-73 Truckin>Other One>WRS
10-30-73 Dark Star>Stella Blue>Eyes>WRS
11-25-73 Eyes>WRS

how about TOO>MAMU>Prelude>TOO?

Okay, Bobby only plays the first few notes of the Prelude, so it doesn't really count but it is kind of cool to hear it in there two years before the shows you mention. On this transfer, which includes the NRPS set, the Prelude "tease" (how can it be a tease if no one has ever heard it?) is in the first 30 secs of the second TOO track.
